Making Film History

As part of the Making the Future project a small group of young filmmakers from NW Ireland were given unique access to archive footage provided by the IFI, BBC and BFI. Over a two-week period, the aspiring filmmakers each produced a short film in response to the archive. They could use the footage as inspiration and/or as content for their own film. The project organisers were “blown away” by the quality and diversity of the 11 films produced by the group. The films ranged from, "an exploration of the creatures of old Irish folklore, set to the backdrop of Irish archive film footage" to "a contemplation of the northern Irish landscape and its inhabitants through the lens of Greek mythology."

Póca Productions’ role in the project was to deliver two filmmaking workshops to train the novice filmmakers in pre-production, filming and editing their projects using a smartphone. We are delighted to have been involved in this inspirational project which has revealed a wealth of filmmaking talent in the North West.

The films premiered at Rathmullan Film Festival 2021
